The Clean Black Lake Alliance (CBLA) is a community non-profit organization dedicated to restoring the health of Black Lake and ensuring it’s clean, safe and pleasurable enjoyment by all.
We promote the use of innovative measures to address excess nutrient inflow into Blake Lake.
We believe the only way to truly clean-up and restore the health of Black Lake is to address the actual cause of the main problems (algal blooms, aquatic plant overgrowth, oxygen depletion ect.) which is excess nutrient inflow that stimulates the growth of harmful algae and nuisance aquatic weeds. Excess nutrients in the lake need to come out, not just be cycled over and over.
“We believe the only way to truly clean-up and restore the health of Black Lake is to address the excess nutrient inflow.”
We seek permanent solutions and not temporary band-aids that do nothing to actually restore lake health or improve water quality. To that end, we propose a number of pilot research projects to test innovative measures that can be applied to the entire lake, its tributaries and surrounding watershed.
With the help of local resource agencies, institutions, and individuals, we plan to obtain grants and also seek donations for funding projects that show promise for cleaning up Black Lake. This will also protect the Strategic Groundwater Reserve for the State Capitol that supplies most of the drinking water for Thurston County residents of which Black Lake is a large part.
Clean Black Lake Alliance is committed to protecting public health through the restoration of the ecosystem and diverse habitat of Black Lake. Because all of our groundwater comes from local precipitation, we promote groundwater protection.
